I was quite surprised by how readily everyone agreed to go for lunch at changi airport yesterday after a no-show by the hawkers at singapore expo. Even burger king wasn't opened at all. We were then deciding about the places to go, be it tampines or bedok. Mavarick and yj then suggested changi airport because it was the nearest in the area. I had suggested to yj before about the good and cheap food there and about wanting to try it out together when there's a a chance. It was a pity there was a standby duty and others like hock leong and marcus had prior commitments and couldn't join the rest of us for lunch.
I was looking at the fdc pictures we took together as a platoon and as a section on yijun's friendster and others as well and it got me thinking. Even the date that was stated on the photo read august 2005. All of us were tired, hungry and dirty, after a long and torturous exercise earthworm. However, spirits were high considering that we've endured it and finally overcome it as well. Sgt Hongzheng took photos with us and i'm sure these photos will not just be in our possessions just physically but also mentally as well. Memories that will last for a lifetime and even pass on to our sons when they enlist for national service. All of us were in long 4, camo still on our faces and we haven't bathed for days but we didn't give a hoot about our current situation. Beneath our smiling faces lies the fact that our major exercises were done and we were more or less our our way to the passing out parade.
It's been 1 year since then. Most of my platoon mates still remained in changi but some were posted to other airbases. It's nearing the end our nsf lives and we're just seeing it through and waiting for that treasured pinky to arrive in our wallet.
It's mavarick's birthday party at his chalet tonight and I hope we all have a good time as a shift and I wish the birthday boys, ostrich and the mat as well Happy Birthday!
