Friday, June 20, 2008 A compilation of the poems from my pulau ubin group mates. Me, Simon and Din came up with Poem 2. Enjoy! Poem 1 Mother Nature is woman She should be coaxed And not forced Likewise loving her Should come freely Never under coercion Or pressure Accept her beating on Your own terms For it is this kind of Love that lasts Forever Poem 2 Pesky mosquitoes with nasty bites Long pants and repellent to make it right Though the going may be tough It’s the hardship that makes us bind “Burning” in the middle of the sea Jerry cans arrive for us to be at ease Sounds of the sea drown my hunger pangs With every pit stop Out comes pack 2 To ease the frown With every meander Comes a clue Relieving us of our blues Poem 3 Imagine waters as clear as crystal But no, they are riddled with litter Imagine rainforests natural and undisturbed But no, they have been unfairly desecrated Imagine people conserving and protecting nature But no, they don’t care about its future What about us – do we care? How much more can Mother Nature bear? Poem 4 We struggle through the circumstances of the journey Pushing us out of our comfort zone Revealing our inner feelings Character and personality We learn to adjust and accept Adapting to one another Look at life in Ubin I realized how simple life can be Man is always chasing insatiable wants Busying themselves inconsequentially night and day Having completed the Ubin journey We should start on a better life journey Poem 5 As Shilin canoes out in the sea and reflects: Unpredictable nature of the waves rewind us that We cannot always be in control We are not the only inhabitants of this ecosystem But merely a part of it Which we have no right to mould Junwen: The beauty of nature lies in the wildlife Living in it There is more than meets the eyes Melach: Nature with all its dynamism and facets I have grown to appreciate the hidden nuggets Mangrove swamps as unsightly as it can be Amazingly they prevent the all terrifying effects of the tsunamis Poem 6 An educational journey without boundaries Like the different roots of the Java mangrove trees A mosquito ambush around a nipah palm Spotting a hornbill Whoever said nature can’t be fun Cicadas flying around, so noisy, so big Hills come alive in the sand of music Each and every species play an important role In the ecological cycle which we do not have the right to mould A wealth of experience in Pulau Ubin There last 3 days, there was nowhere else we rather be
